After spending years in a coma, Vanessa is thrust into a post-apocalyptic world ruled by vampires; Vanessa makes a discovery that could save humanity, but makes her a target for vampires.

Vanessa is attacked and left for dead in the days leading up to "The Rising," causing Doc, Axel and the marines to retrieve her body and become marooned in a hospital.

The hospital's power source is damaged, jeopardizing the protective UV lights; Vanessa and Axel head into Seattle to scavenge parts, leaving the others to fight against the vampires and amongst themselves.
