Ex-police scientist-turned-author Joe Donovan is called to the scene of a murder, where his name has been written on the wall in blood beside the murder victim; a copycat killing from a real case he documented in one of his books.

Gibson's murder is still unsolved, and another body is found murdered in nearly identical fashion.
