Preparing for an expedition to the North Pole in defiance of government opposition, Amundsen confides to his brother his secret plans to take the South Pole.

Scott discovers that Amundsen is also heading for the South Pole.

The rivalry between the two expeditionary teams increases and they both discover just how unforgiving Antarctica can be.

Amundsen's team manages to surge ahead; frustrations cause friction among the members of Scott's team.

Scott's team gradually disintegrates and resentment among the group runs high.

Amundsen beats Scott to the Pole and Scott's team is in trouble.
