When a prominent Danish gender campaigner is found murdered in Malmö, Swedish detective Saga Norén is assigned a new Danish partner to help with the investigation, but their relationship does not get off to a good start.

Saga and his new Danish partner, Henrik, continue to investigate the murder; when another equally detailed murder occurs, suspicions turn to a Danish blogger; Saga makes a shocking discovery about Hans.

Saga and the police receive a ransom video from Hans' kidnapper and discover things may not be as they seem; the police continue to pursue Lise, the blogger, as the prime suspect; outside of work, someone close to Saga returns to her life.

Saga and Henrik manage to arrest someone after a hostage situation; when a fourth elaborate murder is discovered, the police realize they may have made a mistake and continue searching for a link between the victims; Saga and Henrik grow closer.

Lillian discovers a wound in Hans' mouth, which turns out to be a branding mark that matches the same brands inside the mouths of the other two victims.

Saga and Henrik notice a connection between the victims and some artwork, all owned by the same man, on display in a museum.

An older couple is found the victims of an elaborate murder in their house outside Ystad; they have a connection to a piece of art, and they both have branding marks in their mouths -- just like the previous victims.

The hunt for the killer intensifies when Saga and Henrik become certain of his identity; however, he disappears before they can bring him in; after, a new victim is found.

Saga is forced to take a leave of absence from the investigation, and her old colleague Rasmus Larsson takes her place; Freddie Holst desperately searches for Jeanette, who is carrying his unborn child.
