At dawn April 25, 1915, teenager Thomas "Tolly" Johnson and his mates land at Gallipoli and find themselves in a chaotic and brutal battle against Turkish defenders.

Anzac and Turkish troops meet to bury their dead; Tolly risks his life by charging a machine gun nest to protect his brother.

Tolly is promoted ahead of his older brother, but disaster strikes when their platoon launches a surprise midnight attack.

Tolly recovers from his injuries in Cairo, then reluctantly returns to the front line at Gallipoli, where he volunteers for sniper duty.

In August 1915, Gen. Hamilton coordinates a complicated series of feints and attacks in a final push to take the Gallipoli Peninsula; Tolly and his mates defy the odds to win the Battle of Lone Pine; the Light Horsemen are decimated at The Nek.

Australian journalist Keith Murdoch visits the British prime minister with a secret letter that will change the course of the war; Tolly is commended for his bravery at Lone Pine; Dave refuses to get help for his chronic illness.

Tolly volunteers to stay behind and man the trenches as the British commanders begin the dangerous task of evacuating tens of thousands of troops from Gallipoli.
